Ex developer Rockstar: GTA 6 on Switch 2 "a colossal optimization work"

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

The wait for GTA VI has almost come to an end, less than two months are missing at the release of the next eneration of the Grand Theft Auto series on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In recent months we have heard several noises about a possible release on Nintendo Switch 2, but now we get direct statements from a former Rockstar employee, Jérémy Hartvick, who raises doubts about the feasibility of a native porting on the Nintendo console. According to the former developer, as Kiwi Talkz reports, turning the immense open world of GTA 6 natively on Switch 2 would require a colossal optimization work by Rockstar, an effort that, in his opinion, would make little sense: the study would be to have to overly compromise the gaming experience. Hartvick also highlights commercial doubts: it does not believe that there is a sufficiently large audience on Switch 2 to justify a title like Grand Theft Auto 6, although the recent releases of GTA Trilogy, L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption on Switch demonstrate an existing demand for similar experiences even on hybrid consoles. The former employee does not preclude a priori the possibility of a porting; admits that the idea of bringing GTA 6 to Switch 2 via the Cloud Streaming would not be "ridiculous". In fact, Rockstar could entrust the optimization of the game to an external studio to avoid overloading work. The hypothesis of seeing Grand Theft Auto VI on Switch 2 may not be completely unfounded.
