Rockstar Blocks Real Economies in GTA VI Mods – New RP Server Rules

Rockstar Games issued new modding guidelines for GTA VI, placing a net ban on the marketing of changes and the use of real money within RP servers. The move, officially communicated, responds to the pressures exerted by the community and in particular to scenarios such as the one imagined by Adin Ros for a server dedicated to GTA 5 with real economic transactions. The publisher has clarified that changes cannot use intellectual property of third parties, nor include pornographic material or references to violent extremities. The distribution of the game on unofficial platforms and the transfer of elements from other Rockstar titles are also prohibited. The most stringent rule concerns the economic aspect: any real money transaction is prohibited – traditional currencies, cryptocurrencies – within the modified content. Even real money gambling and sponsorship promotion were banned in RP servers. This decision follows years of openings and closings in the relationship between Rockstar and modders, culminated in the acquisition of the FiveM team and collaboration with NoPixel, who had legitimized the phenomenon of the RP servers of GTA 5. The new rules, promoted by creators like Adin Ros who dreamed of creating virtual economies, are now incompatible. Rockstar emphasizes that the ban does not concern modding itself, but only forms of commercial exploitation without agreement with the publisher. This means that custom servers and changes will be allowed, provided they comply with the conditions set by Rockstar. The publisher therefore placed a clear limit on influencer projects and to anyone aiming to transform GTA VI into a real parallel economic platform.
