Preorders are now available for the launch of 19 November, although only for North America and Europe. Learn how to pre-order the collector's edition will be shared soon; Rockstar also anticipated the imminent arrival of additional clothing and collectors in the store GTA VI. Collectable boxes without game are not new, and Rockstar has inaugurated this practice. The Collector’s Box for Red Dead Redemption 2 cost $99.99 and was devoid of the game, with Rockstar explaining that it was not a game edition, but a separate accessory package that players could match the physical or digital version they wanted. Blizzard followed the same logic. The Limited Collector’s Box for Diablo IV cost $96.66 and was free to copy the game, not even in-game codes, which were instead connected to digital purchases. Blizzard also promoted this option as a way for players to match the desired digital edition with physical merchandising, and the box did not arrive until June 30, more than three weeks after the game was launched. EA further developed this trend with Mass Effect Legendary Cache, which was released along with the legendary edition in May 2021: its focal point was a 1:1 scale reproduction of the Shepard helmet, and included a steel case for the game but no copy of the game, not even a downloadable code. Considering these previous practices, the GTA VI box follows a familiar formula, but on a very different scale: the Vice City collection costs about four times as much as the Red Dead Redemption 2 box or Diablo IV; it is also more expensive than collector editions released by Sony for its recent blockbuster, which had a cost of $230-250 and included at least one digital copy of the game. Going back to a generation, the contrast is even more evident: the Collector edition for Grand Theft Auto V debuted at only $149.99 in 2013, and that included the game.
