Xbox and PlayStation in Calo Post-GTA 6: US Market Analysis

Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles are recording negative sales in the United States just over a month since the launch of GTA 6. According to the analyst Mat Piscatella in Circana, sales of Microsoft hardware units decreased by 33% compared to the previous year (period beginning of the year - August 2026), while PlayStation sales fell by 25%. Both consoles reach minimum sales history, with the Xbox that has recorded the lowest value since it was released and the PlayStation at the lowest level since 2013. Average console prices have increased significantly: a new Xbox Series X|S costs on average $529 (an increase of 26% compared to the previous year), while the PS5 stands at $597 (an increase of 20%). These increases have, in fact, discouraged potential buyers. The impact of GTA 6 on the hardware market is still uncertain, although Piscatella believes that the release of the game could help to reduce the calis. However, the situation will also depend on the availability of components, especially RAM, and of course the final price. The US hardware market was not in such a critical situation since the early 1980s.
