Rockstar Reinvigorates Mod Rules Before GTA VI Exit

Rockstar Games has strengthened its mod restrictions a few weeks after the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The move aims to control the integrity of the main narrative, maps and characters in the new title, especially before the release. The new guidelines explicitly prohibit the creation or distribution of mods that alter original plots, missions, playable characters – Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos included – or any element of the main narrative content developed by Rockstar. This also includes the transfer of maps, settings and assets between different titles, such as the hypothetical fusion of elements of Grand Theft Auto with Red Dead Redemption. Multiplayer changes are limited exclusively to the use of the official Creator Platform or licenses granted directly by Rockstar Games, while cheat menus and software interfering with official multiplayer services are strictly prohibited. Rockstar also reiterates that games cannot be modified to work on consoles, devices or platforms not supported by the manufacturer. In addition, mods may not contain copyrighted material such as characters, artwork, music, photographs or other intellectual property content without Rockstar's written permission. The use of vocal interpretations, images or similarities of real people is also subject to restrictions. Monetization of mods remains excluded, except through official instruments made available by Rockstar Games. The guidelines also include rules against harassment, threats and any other harmful behavior for the community of players. This decision arrives at a moment of great expectation for GTA 6. At the moment the release is scheduled only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while no information has been released on a PC version.
